Objective To investigate about the Misdiagnosis Rates of Geriatric Syndromes in old inpatients. Taking nutritional risk assessment as an example, we try to illustrate the importance of CGA in clinical outcome and QALY prediction. Methods 1. Medical charts of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) Health care department were reviewed in patients who had hospital courses before and after 2010 and who aged^60 years old. Comparison of the misdiagnosis rates of geriatric syndromes were done before and after 2010 (the year of initial introduction of CGA to PUMCH Ward A).2. Reviewing medical charts of old inpatients who admitted in PUMCH Elderly Demonstration Ward, General Medicine Ward, Neurology Ward and Endocrinology Ward, during the period between 1st, April,2015 to 1st, July,2015, with length of stay ≥3 days; To investigate the misdiagnosis rates of the geriatric syndromes in the cross section.3. To summarize the progress of research on the influence of nutrition support on quality-adjusted life-year (QALY) in elderly patients with nutritional risk. Result 1. Before and after 2010, the misdiagnosis rate of the geriatric syndroms in Ward A was 77.19% and 67.05%, respectively.2. The misdiagnosis rate of the geriatric syndrome fluctuated from 20% to 80.33%.3. Nutrition support for patients with nutritional risk can improve prognosis, reduce cost, and increase QALY. Conclusion The misdiagnosis rate of the geriatric syndrome is high. The CGA is worth of further generalizing in clinical practice.
