Objective: The relationship of environment and quality of typha L., which were used to treat wastewater in simulating constructed wetlands were studied to find the effect of secondary pollution on pollen typhea quality and the application possibility of medical plants cultivated in constructed wetlands.Method: Pharmacognosy and plant physiology methods were used to analyze the quality change of typhea spp. in simulating constructed wetlands. TLC scanner method and HPLC were used to analyze the change of flavonoids compound and ICP-AES method was used to analyze the change of metal elements.Result and discussion: The results showed that qualities of pollen typhea cultivated in simulating constructed wetlands weren't changed. Sewage effects on typha spp. pharmacognosy and plant physiology were relatively small. This made it possible for typha spp. cultivated in constructed wetlands to be used in medical applications. Studies on flavonoids compound and metal elements showed that the Typha spp. could be used as medical resources when the water qualities met discharge standard of three grade. When the quantity of metal elements didn't met the discharge standard of third grade, the metal elements quantity of partly pollen typhea surpassed the healthful Chinese crude drugs standard and couldn't be used. Quality and safety of Chinese crude drugs could be guaranteed by means of environmental pollution monitor. The study provided experimental evidence for medical application of typha spp. cultivated in constructed wetlands and presented a new thought and way for finding resources of Chinese medical plants.
