Objective: To explore the effect of Pen Qiangyan Granule on the immunity and epithelial cell biology of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease of blood stasis and asthenia of kidney. Mthods: Sixty patients were divided into two groups randomly: the treatment group and the control group. Symptoms and signs of each group were observed before and after treatment. Meanwhile both the levels of CD4, CD* the blood plasma and the levels of TNF, IL-2 of the blood serum were measured. Rat model was made with mixed bacterium. After treatment we observed the changes of histology, ultrastructure and acid phosphatase activity of rats' endometrium by enzyme cytochemicai technique. Results: The total effective rate of the treatment guoup and the control group is si gni f icant 1 y different (P<0. 05). After treatment by Pen Qiangyan Granule, the levels of CD4/CD8 and IL-2 in blood are improved, while the levels of CDs and TNF in blood are decreased(P<0. 05). The changes of histology show that plasma cells and fiber cells of the treatment group rats are reduced obviously, through electron microscope, we find the number of lysosomes in the epithelia of endometrium of the treatment group rats is less than that of the control group rats. The shapes of microviilis of endometrium of the treatment group rats are more regular than those of the control group rats. We also observe the activity of acid phosphatase in the epithelia of endometrium of the treatment group rats is lower than that of the control group rats. Conclusions: Pen Qiangyan Granule can effectively treat chronic pelvic inflammatory disease of blood stasis and asthenla of kidney. It can moderate the immunity, improve some symptoms and physical signs and inhabit inflammation . it can also stabilize the lysosomal membrane and improve the function of cells.
