Analysis Of Normal Adults' RECD In SiChuan Area

Objective: To obtain the average RECD value of normal adults in Sichuanarea . To study whether there is difference between men and women ,right and left ear, Caucasian people and adults in Sichuan area.Toinvestigate the importance of applying the average value to hearing aidfitting.Methods: 95 normal adults from Sichuan area(47 male,48 female ) wereincluded. RECD value of both ears were obtained by AudioscanRM500.RECD values were Compared between right and left ear, male andfemale, Sichuan and Caucasian adults.Results: There is statistic difference between the average value of theSichuan adults and that in Caucasian adults at each frequency.No differencewas found between the right and left ear of Sichuan adults .No differencewas found between male and female at frequencies between 3.0 KHz to6.0KHz. The mean value is slightly higher in female than that in male atfrequencies between 0.25K to 3.0KHz.Conclusion: Clinicians should be careful to use the mean RECD value ofCaucasian when fitting hearing aids for Chinese. Establishing the nationalstandard of Chinses is very important . We'd better make real ear measurement for each patient when fitting hearing aids. Applyings the average age-related and race-related RECD values should be recommended if the individual RECD cannot be obtained.
