Objective: The aim of this study was to study the hospital costs and their related factors of cholecystectomy for cholelithiasis patients complicated with cholecystitis and explore the methods to reduce the hospital costs for this type of diseases.Method: 274 medical records of discharged patients of cholecystectomy for Cholelithiasis with cholecystitis complication were retrieved over a 1-year period in 2002 at a tertiary, multi-specialty referral hospital and related cost data were from the patient administration section at the same hospital. SPSS 10.0 were used for data input, statistic and analysis. The t-test, variance analysis, linear correlation, multiple linear regressions were applied in this study. Results: The average hospital costs of Cholecystectomy for Cholelithiasis patients with Cholecystitis complications were 5301.12 yuan. Drug fee accounted for41.45% of hospital costs of total hospital costs, and operation fee21.43%, check-up fee 11.87%, medical treatment fee 11.57%, material fee7.02%, ICU fee 3.95%, bed fee 1.38% , food fee 1.02% and others 0.40%, The average hospital costs of Cholecystectomy for Cholelithiasis patients with Cholecystitis complication were significantly affected by age, sex, timing of operation, methods for acesodyne, fluid, pathological diagnosis, hospital days before operations, hospital days after operations , days of antibiotics use and days for fluid administration. Multiple linear regressions show that days after operations, hospital days before operations, days for fluid administration, pathological diagnosis( the severity of the disease), methods for acesodyne, sex and age were the main contributing factors in line with (3 coefficient.
