Objective: To study the influence of telescope crown and precision attachment retainer to the abutment periodontium. Method: 48 abutments (first molar) of telescope crown and precision attachment restoratives (second molar missing, use second premolar and first molar as abutments) were evaluated as to their Plaque Index (PlI), Gingival Index (GI), Probing Depth (PD), Sulcus Bleeding Index (SBI) and bone loss. Subgingival plaque samples were taken and culture method was used for detection of Bacillus megatherium, F.nucleatum, Streptococci, Actinomyces.Use the contralateral same name teeth in the same arch as control group. They all were investigated four times, after restorative immediately, 1 month later, 3 month later, and 6 month later. Result: From the abutment periodontium of telescope crown, all four period of time, GI, PlI, SBI, PD and microbial results showed no significant difference with the control teeth. From the abutment periodontium of precision attachment , at four period of time, SBI, PD, the quantity of Streptococci, Actinomyces indicated no significant different with the control teeth. After restorative 3month, PlI, GI, the quantity of Bacillus megatherium and F.nucleatum showed significant different (P<0.05) with the control teeth. 6 month later, the upwards index showed extreme difference with the control teeth. Conclusion: The telescope crown retainer has little influence than the precision attachment retainer to the periodontium of the abutment.
