Objective To study the influence of telescope crown retainer to the abutmentperiodontium. Methods 18 abutments (second premolar) of telescope crown restoratives (firstmolar missing, use second premolar and second molar as abutments) wereevaluated as to their Plaque Index (PlI), Gingival Index (GI), Probing Depth (PD),Sulcus Bleeding Index (SBI) and bone loss. Subgingival plaque samples were takenand culture method was used for detection of Bacillus megatherium, F.nucleatum,Streptococci, Actinomyces.Use the contralateral same name teeth in the same archas contral group. The other 30 abutments of porcelain-fused to-metal fixed bridgealso used as contral group. They all were investigated four times, after restorativeimmediately, 1 month later, 3 month later, and 6 month later. Results From the abutment periodontium of telescope crown, all four periodof time, GI, PlI, SBI, PD and microbial results showed no significant differencewith the contral teeth. From porcelain-fussed to-metal fixed bridge, at four period of time, SBI,PD, the quantity of Streptococci, Actinomyces indicated no significantdifference with the contral teeth. After restoratived 3month, PlI, GI, the quantityof Bacillus megatherium and F.nucleatum showed significant difference (P<0.05)with the contral teeth. 6 month later, the upwards index showed extremedifference with the contral teeth. Conclusion The telescope crown retainers have little influence to theperiodontium of the abutments. The porcelain-fussed to-metal fixed bridgechange the periodontal environment of the abutments, and destroy theperiodotium of the abutments.
