Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Abdominal Acupuncture treatment for the treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation, and to gain further improvement on therapeutic effect of non-operative treatment for Lumbar Disc Herniation(LDH) by experience.Methods: According to Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis criteria established by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of People's Republic of China in 1994, a total of 90 LDH patients from outpatient department and inpatient department of Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were selected and were randomly split into 3 groups: Abdominal Acupuncture treatment group (group A) , routine non-operative treatment group (group B) and combined treatment group (group C) .One courses of treatment which lasted for 2 weeks were undergone. Data were collected at prior treatmentN post-treatment and 2 months post-treatment. Therapeutic effect were evaluated by Japanese Orthopaedic Association' s Assessment of Treatment for Low Back Pain (JOA score) and Visual Analogue Pain Score (VAS). Database was found by using the EPIdata software. Data was analysised by using the SPSS 11.0 software.Results: Either of 3 groups' mean scores of JOA score and VAS post-treatment shown statistical significance with which prior treatment (p<0. 01) . The Abdominal Acupuncture treatment group's mean JOA score improved from 10. 57 to 22.67, with 64% average improvement rate; the routine non-operative treatment group's score improved 10. 27 to 22. 57, with 65% average improvement rate; and the combined treatment group' s score improved from 10. 43 to 25. 63, with 81% average improvement rate.
