Objectives : To make a comparative study of the expression of aromatase cylochome P450(P450arom) and the receptor of estrogen(ER) in adenomyosis and endometriosis and investigate the pathogenesis of both diseases.Methods: The expression at protein level for P450arom and ER were determined by immunohistochemical S-P method in 30 cases of adenomyosis ,30 cases of ovarian endometriosis and 13 normal individuals as the control.Results: (l)The expression of P450arom was significantly higher in the adenomyosis group and the ovarian endometriosis group than that in normal group (P<0.05) ,but the positive expression rate of P450arom had no significant difference between prolifetative phase and secretory phrase.(2) In the ectopic endometrium, the staining of P450arom in the adenomyosis group was significantly higher than that in the ovarian endometriosis group (P <0.05). (3)In the adenomyosis group ,both of the expression of P450arom and ER in ectopic endometrium was significantly higher than that in eutopic endometrium (P<0.05). (4) In the ovarian endometriosis group ,the expression of P450arom in ectopic endometrium was significantly higher than that in eutopic endometrium, but the expression of ER was on the contrary.Conclusion: P450arom and ER were all expressed in the adenomyosis and ovarian endometriosis, They are involved in the development of adenomyosis and ovarian endometriosis, but maybe P450arom plays a more important role in the pathogenesis of the ectopic endometrium of adenomyosis.
