Expression And Correlation Of TGF-β₁ And VEGF In Human Vocal Fold Polyp

Objectives: This study aimed to analyse the expression of TGF-Bi and VEGF in human vocal fold polyp and to investigate the correlation between its expression.Meanwhile ,we studied the pathogenesis of vocal fold polyp further.Methods: The expression of TGF-Bi and VEGF were detected in the examples of 37 vocal fold polys and 11 healthy vocal folds with immunohistochemical staining ( SP method) .Meanwhile,the positive results were contrasted.Results: The percent of positive expression of TGF-β1 was 56.76% and the positive cells counts was 22.55+27.31 in vocal fold polyps. This expression tended to be increased greatly compared with the percent of positive expression of TGF-β1(18.18%) and the positive cells counts(2.53+3.75) in healthy men vocal folds (P<0.05),The TGF-β1 positivity in cells in the stroma was significantly higher in vocal cord polyps than in healthy vocal cords. The percent of positive expression of VEGF was 51.35% in vocal fold polyps. This expression tended not to be increased greatly compared with the percent of positive expression of VEGF (18.18%) in healthy vocal fold (P>0.05). but,the percent of positive vascular counts of VEGF in the vocal fold polyps (56.66 +25.48)%was higher than that in the healthy vocal folds (37.11 +29.52 )%(P<0.05).In the vocal fold polyps ,the expressive difference of TGF-Bi or VEGF was insignificant in the male and female(P>0.05),the expression of TGF-β1 and VEGF was not correlative.Conclusion: The TGF-Bi may contribute to some of the pathologic changes observed in vocal cord polyps. The TGF-BI may induce extracellular matrix accumulation and local fibrosis.The VEGF may play a key role in the formation of heavy edema of vocal cord polyps.The TGF-β1 and VEGF may be involved commonly in the formation and development of vocal cord polyps .we may conclude that cytokines play a great role in the etiology of vocal cord polyps.If we can control the produce of cytokines (TGF-β1 , VEGF et.al) in the vocal cord polyps,we may find a new way to treat it.
