Study On The Role And Duty As Well As Cultivation Mode Of Clinical Nurse Specialist

Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is defined as those who have gained master or doctor degree and who have excellently professional nursing knowledge and skill as well as clinically abundant experience in some special nursing area. The cultivation of CNS plays an important role in solving the matter on the sustained development of nursing experts and training high qualified nursing experts. And this project is in the primary stage in the nation.It is imperative to cultivate CNS with our nation's special feature, with the development of people's living standard and the need of the thousands of families in medical care. According to the literature, there is still no agreement in these fields such as who can become CNS, which responsibility CNS should take and which mode should be taken in cultivating CNS. Moreover, only 4 hospitals in the nation are carrying out the project in the nation. Therefore, based on the deep investigation, we want to define the role and duty of CNS, to determine the basic condition of the qualified CNS and to set up training contents and training mode. The study is also primary but it is very useful for the extensive development of cultivating CNS in China.The questionnaires were carried out on the importance of Clinical Nurse Specialist among the chosen nurses as statistical methods such as random sampling and the coefficient evaluation were taken. The 5factors of role and duty of CNS and their related 35 items were suggested according to the feature of the nation's nursing situation as well as the read literatures worldwide. Also, the impact of CNS on the hospital and the position of CNS in the hospital were analyzed.As a result, we have made suggestion that the importance of the 5 factors of role and duty of CNS in order is as follow: clinical nursing practice, scientific research, education, advisor role and administration role. We also discuss the function of clinical nursing practice of CNS and suggest the government role in the qualifications, welfare treatment of CNS.Based on the investigation, we have established the basic condition of the qualified CNS and have set up training contents and training mode. And according to the established regulation, we have tested the system in the Kidney Medical Department. We picked up 12 students and carried out the experiment under the supervisor of CNS in this department. And the trial was satisfying.As far as the role and duty of CNS as well as the contents of CNS cultivation is concerned, this system will improve the efficiency of nursing service and promote the development of nursing business.
