Objective:Atherosclerosis is considered having an relationship with hypertention, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes mellitus, smoking, drinking and obesity. But these factors can not explain all the cases.Several studies had suggested an association between the infection of Chlamydia Pneumonia and atherosclerosis(such as ischemic stroke, coronary heart disease,et al).Our research was designed to investigate the relationship between Chlamydia Pneumonia infection and cerebrovascular diseases(including cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage). And to explore the pathogenetic mechanism of the Chlamydia Pneumonia. Methods:We studied 40 cerebral infarction patients,25 cerebral hemorrhage patients and 25 control groups. Antibodies to Chlamydia Pneumonia IgM,IgG,IgA in serum were measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in patients with cerebral infarction ,cerebral hemorrhage and control subjects.Meanwhile ,the serums were measured blood lipid, the concentration of C-reactive protein, and the plasmas were measured the concentration of fibrinogen. Results:All the 40 cerebral infarction patients,25 cerebral hemorrhage patients and 25 control subjects were measured Chlamydia Pneumonia antibodies.40 cerebral infarction and 25 cerebral hemorrhage patients were measured blood lipid.36 cerebral infarction and 21 cerebral hemorrhage patients were measured the concentration of fibrinogen.35 cerebral infartion patients and 22 cerebral hemorrhage patients were measured the concentration of C-reactive protein.23 patients in 40 cerebral infartion patients had IgA positivity(57.5%) compared with 7 subjects in control group had IgA positivity(28%) (P<0.05),14 patients in cerebral hemorrhage(57%) had IgA positivity compared with control groups(P<0.05). The IgM and IgG positivity in three groups had no statistical difference(P>0.05).The titers of IgM and IgG in three groups had no statistical difference (P>0.05). The titers of IgA between cerebral infarction group and control group had statistical difference(P<0.05),the titers of IgA between cerebral hemorrhage group and control group had no statistical difference(P>0.05).The level of blood lipid and the concentration of fibrinogen between Chlamydia Pneumonia IgA positive group and negative group had no statistical difference(P>0.05).But the concentration of C-reactive protein between two groups had statistical difference(P<0.05).The titers of IgA and the concentration of C-reactive protein had positive correlation r=0.72 (95%CI 0.61-1.21)(P<0.01).But the titers of IgA and the level of blood lipid, concentration of fibrinogen had no correlation. Conclusion: Chronic and active infection or reinfection with Chlamydia Pneumonia is association with cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage, probably through inflammatory injures the blood vessel endothelium.
