Objective To study the clinicopathological features influencing the prognosis of rnucinous gastric carcinoma(MGC)Methods We investigated the clinicopathological features and prognosis of 52 MGC patients and 838 non-mucinous gastric carcinoma(NMGC) patients underwent operation in fourth hospital affiliated to Soochow University from 1995 to 2001 retrospectively. Results Early-stage mucinous gastric carcinoma is rare , There were 2 cases of early-stage mucinous gastric carcinoma (3.8%) , and there were 217 cases of NMGC (25. 9%). Comparing to non-mucinous gastric carcinoma , mucinous gastric carcinoma were more depth of invasion (T3+T4: 82.8% vs 58.7%) , more lymth nodes metastases (67.3% vs 50. 7%), more peritoneal dissemination (21.2% vs 12.3%) , higher TNM stage (III+IV stage: 88.5% vs 63.9%) and lower curability . The 1-year and 2-year survival rates were lower in MGC patients than in NMGC patients .Conclusions The factors influencing the poorer prognosis ofMGC are the advanced stage at the time of diagnosis, lymph nodes metastases, higher serosal invasion and peritoneal dissemination, a higher TNM status and lower curability .
