| ObjectiveAlong the development of human civilization, the expansion of information and knowledge, and the intensify of social competition the stretch of people to accept the indirect knowledge is getting more and more intense, especially for those schoolchildren in developing period who face to severe competition in strict education process. Hie stretch has caused many problems, such as the well -known worldwide refractive problem in children, but the impact of reading intensity of schoolchildren on intraocular pressure (IOP) has not been realized yet. As an attempt, therefore, the IOP and some ocular parameters of normal volunteer students from the primary schools in Jinzhou city were randomly measured to explore if there is the correlation between IOP and the strength of reading, and the potential reasons.Method1. The subjects;80 eyes of 45 normal volunteer students with no more than 0. 5DS equivalent refractive errors at the fifth year of school life from 3 different ranks of primary schools in Jinzhou City were grouped based on the schools. The IOP, refraction and some ocular parameters of students were measured.2. Measurement:Tne ordinary ocular examinations, refractive measurement by computer auto refractor, the IOP by noncontact tonometer (NCT) , the biometry parameter including keratometer power, anterior chamber depth, crystalline lens thickness and eye axial length were measured. The vitreous depth was computed from theother components. The data was analyzed by SPSS 11.5.ResultThe reliable IOP data of 45 students from focal point primary, general primary and country primary schools were 22. 11mmHg 3. 80,20. 37mmHg 3. 08, 19. 22mmHg 2. 82, respectively. Under the analysis of variance, the differences of IOP values among schools were significant ( P < 0.05 ). The incidences of intraocular hypertension from three schools were 55. 30% , 40% and 16.70% , respectively, with a significant chi-square analysis (P<0.05).ConclusionThe results shown that the IOP readings are high in the students from good primary school with the increasing of reading intensity. It suggested that with the development of human civilization, the level of IOP and the rate of intraocular hypertension would be higher due to the increasing of reading intensity. |
