Reading is a process of obtaining information from written materials. The writtenmaterials are mainly scripts; also include symbols, formulas, and figures, etc. Duringthe process of reading, one transforms the scripts into sounds first, and then completesthe comprehension of the written materials. Reading is an active process, and it canbe modulated by readers according to various purposes. In daily life, in order to understand the context better, people often read thesame material more than once. In the thesis, we studied repeated reading byadopting eye movements recording technique. The patterns of eye movements duringrepeated reading were explored and investigated. The main results are as follows:1Repeated reading has significant influence on reading rate, fixation count andproportion of regressions; while it has little influence on the other three saccadicparameters.2During repeated reading, fixation count on content words is significantly morethan function words, indicating the distribution of landing positions is influenced byparts of speech.3Strategies of saccadic planning during first reading favor regressions over aslower pace of forward saccades.4The repeated reading paradigm provides a new perspective in studying thesaccadic patterns during reading.
