Meridian theory is the foundation of traditional Chinese medicine. Jing and Luo connect the the inside organs and the limbs. Aacupoints lie on the paths of Jing and Luo. Acupuncture is based on the correlation of Jing Luo, acupoints and the inside organs. Acupuncture is a ancient therapeutics with a long history. By far many modern physical therapeutic methods appear on the basis of the ancient theory. The relevant instruments are widely applied to treat hemiplegia, rheumatism, arthiritis lumbar and cervical disease, and neuromuscular disease, etc. The surface electrodes and the microprocessor play important roles on the new idea of stimulation aimed at dredging meridian and acupiont. The stimulation to dredge meridian and acupiont intends to treat patient by regulating the energy on the whole meridian strip. The main task of the project is to design one kind of stimulator according to the theory of dredging meridian and acupiont and the rules of electrical stimulation. The paper mainly covering three aspects: The theoretical parts include the summarization in research of Jing and Luo, the mechanism of dredging meridian and acupiont, the model of acupoints impedance and analysis of current density distribution in the tissue under the electrodes. The second part focuses on the design of the therapeutical instrument. The core of the instrument is made of MCU SST89E554 and CPLD EPM7064S. It gets the user's information, displays the current status by LED and controls the output of each channel. The typical output is a chain of bipolar rectangular pulses. The parameters such as frequency, width of each pulse and the interval between successive pulses with inverse polarity can be changed easily in program. The clinical experiment is held on the Accessorial Hospital of Chinese Medicine College of Tianjin. The therapeutical process is comfortable, convenient, easily control as compared with traditional needle acupuncture. Additionally the effect of the analogue of conductivity along the meridian lines is achieved.
