Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the periodontium and adjacent tissues. This site-specific inflammation is characterized by a local infiltration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and T lymphocytes. Interlenkin-8 is an important cytokine that is responsible for regulating the recruitment and activation of PMN. To explore the relationship between IL-8 and adult periodontitis. we use ISH and IHC technique to measure the levels of IL-8 and identify the IL-8 positive cells in gingival tissue in 32 samples (16 healthy volunteers, 16 CP patients). The results showed that the levels of IL-8 in CP group were significantly higher than that in health group and the IL-8 positive cells located in gingival epithelium and gingival connective tissue which indicated that IL-8 took part in the pathological process of periodontitis.
