The Study On Therapeutic Effects Of Thyroxine In Elderly Patients With Chronic Heart Failure

Objective To study the relationship between thyroid hormone and chronic heart failure in elderly patients; the clinical effects and feasibility about thyroid hormone in treating elderly patients with chronic heart failureMethod The thriiodothyonine(T3),thyroxine(T4) ,thyoid stimulating hormone(TSH) in 102 elderly patients with chronic heart failure and 30 normal people were determined by particle glimmer. Sixty two low triiodothyronine state cases in elderly patients with chronic heart failure were divided into 2 groups randomly while hospitalization , 31 cases of group of observation and 31 cases of control group. All of them were received conventional treatment including vasodilators,diuratics and cardiotonic , etc. The group of observation wastreated with thyroid hormone(20mg/dail) additionally, the duration of treatment was two weeks. Before and after treatment, the level ofthriiodothyronine(T3),thyroxine(T4),thyroid stimulatinghormone(TSH),and the class of heart function were assessed and the left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) was observed by echocardiography.Results The level of T3 in elderly patients with chronic heart failure were remarkedly lower than those in normal controls(P<0.01). After two weeks treatment ,the level of T3 in two groups were remarkably increased, and the increase in the group of thyroid hormone treatment was more remarkable(P<0.05). whereas T4 and TSH showed no change. The efficient rate in observation group (93.54%) was remarkably higher than that in conventional group(70.97%)(P<0.05).The LVEF in two groups were increased.However those of observation group increased more singnificantly (P<0.05). During two weeks of treatment, there was no side effect in all patients.Conclusion: l.The level of T3 in elderly patients with chronic heart failure was decreased, and it was correlated withthe seventy of heart failure.2.Thyronid hormone combined with conventional treatment may effectively correct the metabolic disorder of thyroid hormone and results in improvement in cardiac function .It suggests that thyronid hormonesupplement therapy can be used effectively in elderly patients with chronic heart failure...
