Objective Rosacea is a relatively common, disfiguring dermatosis with unknown etiology in spite of theories abound. There are a lot of methods for treatment, but minor effects have gained. To alleviate patients' discomfort and psychological distress, the study on action of testosterone and estradiol in pathogenesis for female patients with rosacea was done. We treated it with antisterone for try in order to search for new therapeutic ways.Method Randomized and placebo-controlled study was adopted to observe effect of antisterone treatment 27 cases of female rosacea. We measured the levels of testosterone and estradiol of 20 cases of female rosacea patients by the radio-immunoassay method prior to and after treatment.Result The results show that in treatment group 3 patients were fully recovered, 9 patients gained marked remission, 12 patients were effective and 3 cases got minor improvement.; in control group there were respective 1 , 6, 9, 11 case (or cases) .There were significant differences between the antisterone and model groups (u=2.19, > 1.960; P<0.05) . The serum levels of testosterone and estradiol of 20 cases of female rosacea patients prior to and after treatment were respectively 0.62±0.15ng/mL, 0.43± 0.09ng/ml; 25.72±4.36pg/ml, 21.12±3.38pg/ml. It is obvious that the serum level of testosterone of the female patients with rosacea tends to decrease after treatment with antisterone (t=2.623, >2.093, P<0.05), while that of estradiol of the same patients has no significant difference between prior to and after treatment (t=1.339, <2.093, P>0.05) .Conclusion Testosterone is one of the etiological factors of female rosacea patients. After the patients being treated with antisterone-the highly effective antagonist against androgen receptor, the therapeutic effects are satisfactory.
