The object of research was concentrated on Whipgrass (Hemarthria. compressa) silage under different condition including different temperatures, water content of whipgrass and additions with different concentrations, as well as studied the separating and identifying of lactobacillus from previously fermented juices(PFJ) of whipgrass which could promote fermentation of whipgrass silage. The purpose of study would like to provide direction for exploitation of Whipgrass silage. The results showed that:(1) The different plastic bags filled with whipgrass silage were placed in the incubator 60 days under the temperature of 20℃,30℃and 40℃, the pH of silage under 40℃was lowerw, sensory value was higher, and pH of this treatment decline faster than those of 20℃and 30℃. The content of crude proteinCP, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) in whipgrass silage were no. significant difference among different temperature treatments after 45 days. With the reduction of pH, the content of ADF slightly decreased, while CP increased-until the pH decreased on 5.37. The results showed that 40℃was better than 20℃and 30℃for whipgrass silage.(2) Three additives ("xuchanyihao" Lactobacillus preparation, FAST-SILE Lactobacillus preparation, PFJ of whipgrass) were added to whipgrass silage material with four concentrations (1,2,5, 10ml/kg). The content of ADF and the pH value were significantly declined, and the content of CP was significantly increased with all the treatments. It showed that all the additives can improve the quality of whipgrass silage. PFJ had a better effect on the fermentation quality and nutrition composition of the silage than other treatments of Lactobacillus preparation, and:the treatment of PFJ with the concentration of 5ml/kg had the best effect in all treatments.(3) Three LAB(Lactic acid bacteria) strains (W1,W2,W3) were separated from whipgrass PFJ which was made by mixing 20g whipgrass with 40ml water and turning them sour under anaerobic condition after 48h. The solution of W1 had the less LAB and higher pH value, and W2,W3 had more LAB and declined pH value faster, even W3 was better than W2. Identification from morphological, physiological and biochemical factors, W2 and W3 belonged to lactis-streptococcus.(4)Additives W2(108cfu/kg), W3(108cfu/kg), W2(107cfu/kg)+W3(107cfu/kg), PFJ(5ml/kg), PFJ(5ml/kg)+W2(107cfu/kg), PFJ(5ml/kg)+W3(107cfu/kg) were added to whipgrass silage which was ensiled with treatments of high water content(75%), middle water content(65%), and low water content(55%). The result showed that with the treatments of low water content (55%) and middle water content(65%), whipgrass silage got higher quality than high water content(75%) with which all treatments can improve the quality of whipgrass silage. With the middle water content, pH value,TBN(ammoniacal nitrogen) content of the silage was decreased, the CP content and number of LAB was increased, but also water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) and dry matter (DM) content was decreased. The differences between CK and the low water content treatment was less than the other treatments. These results suggest that the treatments of W3, PFJ+W3, PFJ have a stable and higher effect on improving the quality and the nutrition value of the silage than other treatments.
