Effect Of Fos And Xos On Growth Performance And Blood Physiology Biochemistry Indexes In Rongchang Weaned Piglets

Abstract/Summary:
The effects of Fructo-oligosaccharide (FOS) and Xylo-oligosaccharide (XOS)on growth performance, blood physiology biochemistry indexes, antioxidation performance and lipid metabolism were studied in rongchang weaned piglets, providing the theoretical information for the application of the FOS and XOS in rongchang weaned piglets.Thirty (33±2)d-age and(7.69±0.12)kg-weight healthy rongchang weaned piglets were divided into four groups with six replicates, each of which breeding alone, in a randomized block design for a 28-day feeding experiment. The four groups were fed with basic diet containing 0.4% FOS(group one ), containing 0.02% XOS(group two), containing 0.2% FOS and 0.01%XOS(group three),containing no additive(control group), respectively. The weight of weaned piglets was measured before and after the experiment, the feed intake and diarrhea status were recorded everyday, the blood was sampled and analyzed after the experiment.The results showed that :①On growth performance, compared with the control group, the average daily gain(ADG) of FOS, XOS and mixed groups were improved by 14.29%,15.47% and 13.52%, the feed/gain(F/G) were decreased by10.29%,10.86% and 9.71%, the diarrhea index (DI) were decreased by 24.42%,26.74% and 17.44%, and the three test groups were all significantly different(P<0.05). The average daily feed intake (ADFI) of three test groups were higher than control group, but no significant difference (P>0.05). Between the three test groups, ADG and ADFI were not significantly differen(tP>0.05). The F/G of XOS group was lower than FOS and mixed groups , with significant difference to mixed group(P<0.05), the DI of group FOS and XOS were significantly lower than mixed group(P<0.05).②On blood physiology indexes, compared with the control group, the contents of blood erythrocyte, hemoglobin, leucocyte and platelet in weaned piglets on FOS, XOS and mixed groups had no significant difference (P>0.05). On blood biochemistry indexes, compared with the control group, the content of serum immunoglobulinG (IgG) in XOS group was significantly enhanced by 24.59% (P<0.05).The FOS and mixed groups increased the conetent of IgG, the three test groups increased the content of serum total protein (TP), albumin(ALB) and globulin (GLO),but they were not significantly different (P>0.05). Between the three test groups, there were no significant difference about the contents of the serum TP, ALB, GLO and IgG (P>0.05).Compared with the control group, the content of serum urea nitrogen (BUN) in XOS group was significantly decreased by 8.12% (P<0.05). The FOS and mixed groups reduced the conetent of BUN, the three test groups increased the content of serum glucose (GLU),but they were not significantly different (P>0.05). Between the three test groups, there were no significant difference about the contents of the serum GLU and BUN (P>0.05).③On antioxidation performance, compared with the control group, the activity of serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) in FOS and mixed groups were improved by 69.02% and 36.89%, the activity of serum glutathion peroxidase (GSH-Px) were improved by26.90%,24.58% and 23.76%, and they were all significantly different(P<0.05). The XOS group enhanced the activity of serum SOD, the three test groups increased the activity of serum catalase (CAT) and decreased the content of serum malondialdehyde (MDA),but they were not significantly different(P>0.05). Between the three test groups, there was no significant difference about the activities of the serum CAT, GSH-Px and the content of MDA (P>0.05), the activity of serum SOD in FOS group was significant higher than in FOS group (P<0.05).④On lipid metabolism, compared with the control group, the content of serum triglyceride (TG) in FOS group was reduced by 29.85%, the content of serum high density lipoprotein (HDL) in XOS group was improved by 28.24%, and they were significantly different (P<0.05). The XOS and mixed groups decreased the conetent of serum TG, the FOS and mixed groups increased the content of serum HDL, the three test groups reduced the content of serum total cholesterol(TC) and low density lipoprotein (LDL),but they were not significantly different (P>0.05). Between the three test groups, there were no significant difference about the contents of the serum TC, TG, HDL and LDL (P>0.05).In summary, FOS, XOS and the mixtures are able to enhance the growth performance, antioxidation performance and lipid metabolism in different level, reduce the diarrhea index. XOS can significantly increase serum IgG and decrease serum BUN in rongchang weaned piglets.
