Cornstalk has high value of utilization. In recent years, with the development of animal husbandry, the problem of animal feed shortage is becoming more and more serious, especially in winter. In China's rural areas, though cornstalk as animal feed has a long history, the harvest methods are mostly artificial, time-consuming and laborious, while the mechanical maize harvest are mostly pulverization and returning field of cornstalk. Currently, a kind of corn harvester was developed out in the market; it could realize the ability of cornstalk chopping and sending them to cornstalk collector at the same time. Though this method facilitated the collection of cornstalk, transportation and storage operations were laborious and time-consuming.To achieve effective recoveries of corn stalks and improve corn harvesters'operational efficiency, the corn snapping and stalk silage baling combine harvester was designed. Based on existing knapsack corn harvesters, stalks shredding and transmission device were added as well as stalk silage baling device. It could realize the ability of corn snapping, stalk shredding, compression and real-time baling movements.The cornstalk shredding device was mainly composed of plane table-knife, spoke wheel, spindle etc. Based on existing plane table-knife, a new type of plane table-knife was designed. After the screw conveyor transporting, chopped stalks were threw to rear forage feeding agencies under the effect of throwing mechanism.The throwing mechanism was mainly composed of silage blower and throwing cylinder etc. In this part, the silage blower and throwing cylinder were designed while the corresponding parameters were determined.The stalk silage baling device was designed which consisted of forage feeding mechanism, baling twine mechanism, baler forming chamber, hydraulic mechanism and density governing mechanism etc. It could realize such movements as delivery of chopped stalks, formation of cornstalk bale, baling twine mechanism, twine cutting mechanism, opening and closing mechanism etc. The forming roller was designed whose surface with oblique chevron pattern, it could realize uniform density, improve quality and efficiency of stalk bale. Meanwhile, a modal analysis was carried on the forming roller. Double twine Synchronous winding technology and device was designed for the first time, it could realize grid winding baling, improve baling quality and efficiency one time. Density governing mechanism was designed which was controlled by driven roller's revolution with the advantage of simple structure and convenient adjustment. This mechanism could adjust the density of cornstalk bale. By making the baling device'function integrated on knapsack corn harvesters, the whole harvester was modular assembly. To increase the utilization of the whole machine, it could group allocated according to the needs of operations.Based on theoretical analysis, three-dimensional and two-dimensional drawings of the prototype were completed. Meanwhile, production test and field trial of the prototype were completed in Shandong Juming(Group) Machinery Co.,Ltd. After the prototype's field trial, it proved that the whole machine had stable operation and reliable performance while all kinds of indicators achieved the requirements of the task book.
