The species of Cotoneaster are the world famous ornamental plants and these plants are widely grown as borders, hedges, and ground cover.China is rich in Cotoneaster species, and it is one of the distribution centers of Cotoneaster in the world, with more than 50 species. The introduction morphological and biological characteristics of C. adpressus, C.glaucophyllus and C. franchetii were stated in this thesis. These plants were propagated with cutting cultivation, and C. franchetii were propagated with tissue culture. The ornamental resources and the landscape application of Cotoneaster were preliminary discussed. The main results are showed as follows:1. Introduction: the climate condition of Nanjing region is fit for the cultivation of C.adpressus, C.glaucophyllus and C. franchetii and differences exist in species.2. Cutting propagation: a series of cutting experiments and the analysis of orthogonal experiment showed that differences exist in species, including rooting ability, process, ratio, and rooting characters. The best techniques for cuttings of C. adpressus would be that soft cutting was treated by 100 mg/L NAA for 1 hour, and the rice chaff ash media as cutting media. The best techniques for cuttings of C.glaucophyllus would be that cutting treated by 50 mg/L IBA for 3 hours and the rice chaff ash media as cutting media. Under the condition of natural illumination and automatic intermittent spraying, the best techniques for cuttings of C. franchetii would be that cutting was treated by 50mg/L NAA for 3 hour, and then cutted into the composite base material comprised of rice chaff ash : pearlitel=1:1(v : v).3. Tissue culture propagation: new shoots without diseases and insect pests of the C. franchetii were used as explants in the tissue culture. The best initiating medium was 1/2MS+6-BA0.5mg/L+IBA0.02 mg/L and the best succession medium was MS+6-BA0.2mg/L+IBA0.5mg/L. For taking roots, the best medium was 1/2MS+NAA 0.3~0.5mg/L.4. Landscaping application: the Cotoneaster plants can be used as ground cover, afforestation seeds, hedgerow, potted landscape.
