Sustaining Development Plan For The Production Of High-quality Tobacco In Liangshan Region Of Sichuan Province

Liangshan Autonomous Region of Yi Nationality in Sichuan is one of the five large production areas of over one million Dan of high-quality tobacco. The following characters of this region provides good conditions for persistent development of toasted tobacco, such as the unique excellent natural resources and the organizational administration systems, technical measures accumulated of tobacco production, alongside the essential facility construction of water irrigation, road and purchasing stations. Whole regions tobacco production during the tenth Five-year Plan period, Liangshan people, in light of the scientific development view, put forward the following plan: To enlarge the growing area gradually and to promote the yield and quality of tobacco, with a goal of 650,000 mu of high-quality tobacco growing base in 2009 and 2.million Dan of a yearly high-quality tobacco yield; To forge hard high-quality tobacco famous brands and to promote their fame and sale in home and abroad. All these are directed to the sustaining development of high-quality tobacco production in Liangshan. To ensure the realization of the goal, importance should be attached to the promotion of tobacco farmer's education, the stabilization of tobacco farmer collective, the raise of tobacco farmer income, the regard of tobacco farmers as the employees and the same interest group of tobacco companies; then importance should be attached to the protection of ecological environment to build a pure harmonious natural surrounding, aiming to produce high-quality tobacco leaves as excellent raw material supplies to the market.After analyzing the cause and the inner quality of smooth tobacco leaf in Liangshan Autonomous Region, the relationships between different aspect of smooth tobacco leaf and the quality of roasted tobacco were described. The method for classifying the smooth tobacco leaf was presented. This result will be useful for tobacco production and provide applied guidance for buy. It also has reference value for the technics component of tobacco and utilization of tinpot tobacco leaves. The new tobacco variety, Yunyan 87, was developed by line selection method through cross between female parent Yunyan 2 and male parent K326 in the South Breeding Center. This variety was introduced into Liangshan from Yunan Tobacco Science Research Institute by Sichuan Tobacco Company in 1997. The national variety comparing test in two years showed that the major agricultural traits of Yunyan 87 are stable, the variability is lower than the control K326 and Honghuadajinyuan. It has several other characteristics, such as growing orderliness in field, strong disease resistant ability, endurance fertilization and water, the equality of leaf thickness, gradient leaf yellowing and easy to roast as well. These traits were further confirmed in three-year middle period test at county of Huili, Dechang, Mianning, Huidong, Yanyuan. The accumulative total planting area in Liangshan reached 50 thousand acre until 2004, so this variety was deeply welcomed by the tobacco farmers.
