Study soil fertility quality and trend of the soil nutrient for the sustained and healthy development of the tobacco production has profound significance. The fertility of 295 soil samples taken from main tobacco-growing field in Xiangxi prefecture of Hunan in 2010 year were analyzed. The main results were as follows:(1)The soil fertility is suitable for tobacco production as a whole.pH value 6.13, organic matter content 23.21g/kg, total N 1.54g/kg, total P 0.59g/kg, total K 18.58g/kg, available N 129.60 mg/kg, available P 17.17 mg/kg, available K 179.00 mg/kg, exchangeable Ca 11.29(1/2cmol/kg), exchangeable Mg 1.97(1/2cmol/kg), available Zn 2.03 mg/kg, available B 0.38 mg/kg, available Mn 27.55 mg/kg, available Mo 0.32 mg/kg, available Cu 1.98 mg/kg, available Fe 70.20 mg/kg, water-soluble Cl 15.71 mg/kg. (2)Compared with the 1999, no big change for soil pH, organic matter content decreased by 5.04%, total N increased by 6.19%, available N increased by 7.23%, available K increased by 10.85%, available P increased by 156.92%, most of other elements increased.(3)The contents of available nitrogen and potassium, total phosphorus and potassium, exchangeable magnesium were increasing with the rising of altitude, but opposite tendency for water-soluble Cl and exchangeable Mg. (4)There existed significant positive correlation between total N and available N, total P and available P, but no significant correlation between available K and total K.According to the soil nutrient content and tobacco requiring fertilizer characteristics, suggestions of controlling nitrogen-stabilizing phosphorus-increasing potassium and many organic fertilizer were put forward.
