The Naming Culture And Clinical Significance

In this study the 24 names of Ren channel acupoints are taken as its objects with great efforts made for detailed textual research,accurate title explanation and transformation from research to application so that the irrational part in our ancestor’s study may be perfected,erroneous and strained interpretation corrected and fragments edited.In this way the implication of the names of Ren channel acupoints and their clinical significance may be understood profoundly and systematically and applied accurately and flexibly.Besides,reference experience will be provided for the interpretation of the names of other acupoints.In this study ancient literature in the cultural and medical fields that relates to the names of acupoints is collected and sorted out comprehensively using the traditional methods and is further arranged and exploited on the basis of our ancestor’s knowledge.First of all,with the traditional culture as a starting point,the effects of the world outlook and thinking mode in the Pre-Qin period upon the names of Acupoints of Ren channel are discussed.The research findings show that ancient Chinese medicine,astronomy and architecture were integrated with social politics and religion and inseparable from each other because all of them were formed and developed under the guidance of traditional Chinese philosophy----world outlook that heaven and man are of a whole.The names of acupoints of Ren channel carry cultural information of philosophy,astronomy and architecture before the Qin and Han dynasties and these fields were mutually integrated.From the names of acupoints of Ren channel we know that the meridian Qi pertains to Yin and accords with the theory of the Sea of Yin Channels;Ren channel controls the Qi(vital energy) and is the source of generating qi and center of gathering qi.The names of acupoints of Ren channel in the abdominal part from Juque to Zigong are quite similar to the architectural layout of ancient gardens.Fourteen of the 24 acupoints were named by the unique thinking mode of classification according to manifestation,revealing the method and law of naming of acupoints by integrating the traditional culture with the characteristics of TCM by ancient physicians.On the basis of finding out the origin of acupoint names,the words are explained in combination with the language and cultural background of the society before naming,using the methods of traditional philology and semantics;theoretical basis,cultural connotation and medical intension are expounded and clinical significance is evidenced by relevant expositions and medical records of famous physicians’ works in ancient China.Results have shown that the names of Acupoints of Ren channel contain such information as the location of acupoints,its morphology,nature of meridian Qi,flow of meridian Qi,crossing between meridians and collaterals,physiology and clinical function,of which 10 are expressed explicitly while 14 implied.In short,the names of acupoints of Ren channel are of great traditional cultural value and clinical significance.
