Animal genetic resources(AnGR) plays an important role in animal husbandry, and the diversity of animal and poultry resources provide fundamental materials for further breeding goal. But more and more local breeds are on the verge of extinction, some breeds are extinguished. It has been more than fifty years about the researches on the preservation of AnGR; however, today there are still two or three animal and poultry breeds extinguished every week in the world. Therefore, the most important thing is to explore the method of preservation in AnGR and it has been agreed that GIS is the efficient technology to check information dynamically in the management of AnGR.The article introduces the reason and development of researches on AnGR, the architecture of GIS technology and the principle of ComGIS. Also presents briefly about the use of Mapx , GIS component of Maplnfo Co,, the method to develop the application by using ComGIS.Our research focus on discussing the developing methods to AnGR management system based on GIS technology and using Visual C++ ,a common developing language ,and MapX software to develop the information management system of AnGR in Shandong province. It mainly includes the designs of system structure, functions, breed database and the way to make the breed layers.The author also introduces the functions of the information management system, analyses and discusses the technical problems in the process of system design.The author has already implemented the information management systemof AnGR in Shandong province. It provides the technical supports in finding out resources, check information dynamically and preservation of animal and poultry. The thoughts and the methods presented in the article provide the way to develop the AnGR information management system of China.
