On farm poultry breeding data is first-hand paper records which are true and reliable, but they still have many shortcomings, such as difficult to preserve, easy to lose, vulnerable. Due to these shortcomings and trait data’s complexity and high independency, the further correlation analysis and the use of different data is very difficult to do, for example, because of that the pedigree records are difficult to find, the inbreeding is easy to appear that will affect breeding effect when formulating a breeding program.This study was based on poultry breeding data shortcomings and the opportunities of computer database technology development, and the poultry breeding data came from "JINGWU" quality medium-sized meat duck of Hubei Hankou Jingwu Agricultural Group and "XINHUA" laying hens of Hubei Xinhua Limited Company. Moreover, the comprehensive development of poultry breeding database software was carried out by the development platform of Access database software and programming language of Structured Query Language, Visual Basic6.0, Visual Basic for Applications, and so on.The main results were as follows:1. The data sheets designed in this software includes basic information section, breeding data section, hatching data section, meat trait data section and egg trait data section this5sections, covered all kinds of important traits in poultry breeding which can ensure integrity and normativity of data.2. All operations were in forms, which could reduce the programming language modification rate in the backstage in order to operate conveniently. In the same time, this software provides report capabilities to display the data as user’s needs and provides printing interface for data backup and display comfortably.3. Determination of new number principle of identification, guarantees the uniqueness of the new identification and improves the accuracy of the software.4. Identification of the genetic relationship is more convenient. The full-sib individuals, the half-sib individuals, and the unrelated individuals also can be identified by the "family" field and other fields.5. The function of automatic error correction. Based on the "Validation rules", when input data shows an error (overflow), this software will force operator to check and correct it, which will improve the accuracy of data input.6. Data structures designed in this software emphasized on the meat-traits and egg-traits. This software will be suitable for the current domestic poultry breeding and in keeping with the trend.
