Mass customization (MC) is the popular production mode in 21st century. It can meet customers' individualized requirements with the efficiency of mass production. Engineering to Order (ETO) product mode is very similar to mass customization. One important problem for ETO enterprises to realize mass customization is how to take advantage of configuration design technology and enterprise's reserved design resources to relieve the conflict between delivery period and design period for customized product in the perspective of design methodology. In this dissertation, the fundamental principle, methods, key technologies and system of configuration design technology for ETO product in the situation of mass customization are studied comprehensive and deeply. The theory is put into application by virtue of the cylinder and the rotor of the steam turbine. The main contents of the dissertation are following:In chapter 1, the paper's research background is introduced. The related fields which consists of DFMC, current development situation of product configuration design technology and ETO product's characteristics and current research situation are reviewed and analyzed. The existing problems of research in current configuration design of ETO product are presented, and the paper's main contents and framework of the dissertation are given.In chapter 2, the theory of configuration design for ETO product in the situation of MC is discussed. The concept of Postponement Design Decoupling Point (PDDP) which is inside enterprise is presented after expatiating the definition and characteristics of ETO product configuration design. PDDP moves Customer Order Decoupling Point (CODP) to the downstream of manufacturing by dividing the ETO product into four part, namely, MTSETO, ATOETO, MTOETO and ETOETO according to design difficulty of part and the characteristics of figure of different parts. In this way, the influence of customized requirements on design of the product is reduced. The configuration design theory of ETO product and its function is described. The framework of ETO product configuration design is established and the key technologies of configuration design are described.In chapter 3, the way of how to establish the master structure configuration model of ETO product is discussed. After analyzing the difference between the master structure configuration model of ETO product and that of other product, the methods that start in the perspective of DFMC and use meta model technology, SML technology and modular design methods which are product family oriented to establish parts' Master Model, Master Document-and ETO product main structure configuration model, so as to realize the configuration design and variant design of product and process are addressed.In chapter 4, the method to express ETO product configuration knowledge based on SML and ontology is studied. According to the advantages of reusable and sharable ontology on realm knowledge, and the advantages of SML in describing the hierarchical and structural product, after discussing the consistency of SML and ontology in describing ETO product configuration knowledge, a kind of method for ETO product configuration knowledge expression is presented which base on SML to assemble relation of parts knowledge expression and ontology to product configuration knowledge expression of constraint rule and description knowledge. Combine with ontology parts library based on Web, an method that can use the extensible SML to describe various parts is brought forward.In Chapter 5 refer to the ETO product configuration deductive method. Analyzed the structure and flow process of ETO product configuration, give the method and process which make use of ontology parts library based on Web, SML and the decision-making table technique to configuration deduction to acquire inaccurate tough structure of ETO product, elaborated on using variation design of master models and master documents to design geometry topological structure and the CAPP and NC procedure engineering data in detail, thus obtaining the method of accurate and consistent product structure with customer's order. Brief to carry on the product configuration method of the result evaluation and the principle to follow.In chapter 6, the research achievements are put into practice combined with the typical ETO cylinder and rotor of steam turbine product in one manufacturing factory of industry steam turbine product.In chapter 7, the achievements and innovations of this dissertation are summarized, and a prospect for future work is give.
