In the process of product development and manufacturing, human-machine efficacy assessment is an important factor which influence on the product development cycle time and cost, also it is really an important factor for the customer.Traditionally, product ergonomic analysis is through the development of a prototype, repeated evaluation and prototype development, until meeting user's requirement, however, it requires a longer time and higher costs. With the development of the virtual reality technology, ergonomic analysis is through the interaction between the 3D virtual human and the virtual product, however, the establishment of realistic virtual scene model needs to a long time, and the 3D virtual human is not real as the real human. In this paper, AR technology overlays virtual objects to the real objects precisely, so the designers can participate in product design, man-machine effectiveness analysis, it makes designers get the real perception and experience in the evaluation process.Based on the research of status and characteristics of AR technology and ergonomics, and the application status of the vehicle interior assessment, the ergonomics assessments based on augmented reality technology is proposed for the product development in the design phase, and the key technology of AR is researched. Eventually, ergonomics analysis prototype software system for the vehicle interior analysis is developed, which provide a new and effective tool for the vehicle interior assessment.Firstly, the application of the AR technology in the vehicle interior assessment is analyzed based on the ergonomics. Based on the ergonomic assessment of the visibility of driver's front view, the accessibility of the dash board, the implemented program of the vehicle interior's visibility and accessibility based on AR technology is proposed.Secondly, vision-based AR technology is in-depth studied. The camera data collection module is developed, also the calibration of the camera internal and distortion parameters is realized and the corresponding calibrating device is developed, the basic image processing algorithms for AR system is realized. Based on the camera's pinhole imaging principle, the register model of Marker-based AR technology is established.Thirdly, by analyzing the specific requirements of ergonomic, the mixed register technology of multi-camera and optical registration technology is proposed. The optical position tracking device can get the position of the real objects quickly and accurately, consequently the accuracy of registration and real-time character of the systems is enhanced. Finally, based on the above-mentioned methods and technology research and the "common virtual reality application development platform (VR Flier)" developed by our lab, the AR-based prototype software system for the vehicle interior ergonomics assessment in the static driving environment is developed. It has been applied to a certain automotive interior's visibility and accessibility ergonomics assessment so as to validate the feasibility of the algorithms and methods proposed in the thesis.
