Huizhou, which situated in the northeastern part of Pearl River Delta, Guangdong proven ice, is a famous historic and cultural city and has a history of nearly 1,400 years old. From ancient times to the present, it is the central of politics, economy, civilization, and communications.The innovation point of this study is that it proceeds from general landscape structure and put a high premium on comprehensively and systematically analyzing and systemizing the general landscape structure's changes of cities during the time from1840 to1949 in order to find the true reasons and driving forces.This research is very helpful in the following aspects: First, understanding the landscape structure's changes of Chinese cities (1840-1949) is important component of Understanding the general rules of Chinese cities changes. Second, The Pearl River Delta, especially for Guangdong is the forward position of influence by western culture and economy, and is also the significant places of capital and literacy exporting from western world during 1840-1949. So, studying Landscape Structure's Changes of this area during this time is of very typical and unique values.At present, the internal comprehensive research on urban landscape structure is still in the early stage at present, especially for landscape structure's changes of cities in neoteric and modern times, and, internal correlation study is still in short of comprehensively and systematically analyzing, and the usual study is often limited to displaying objects and phenomenon. Besides, foreign landscape structure studies about formation, function, coping strategies is a quite active field of research. The primary coverage is about civic landscape planning and management, landscape architecture, urban land use, interrelationship between nature and humanity and so on. But whether it is suitable for china still need further argumentation because of differences such as culture, fundamental realities, development history and so on.This article carries on research through three layers: First, the influence of city's regional environment and background to its development, include city location, space and social characteristics, and developmental trajectories; Second, the main landscape and elements which play the role of a nucleus to urban landscape structure; Third, establish models to different times and reveal content and mechanisms.This research uses methodologies which include history and literature analysis, abstract conceptualization, comparative approach and field method to analyze the changing mechanism on landscape structure of Chinese Cities (1840-1949) in Huizhou; the driving forces and coping strategy of landscape structure in the process of developing and changing; to find out the main elements of urban landscape structure, and to set up the integrated system of frames for analysis and evaluationThe study has very important academic and application values. and its driving force of cities in Huizhou is the sound basis for rationally evaluating and analyzing the practice for urban construction, and also for deeply understanding the general rules of changes in such similarly cities. Besides, it is also helpful for understanding coping strategies in the process of changing. This study is also helpful for understanding the process and underlying forces of urban modernization. Besides, through continuous research, we hope that we could comprehensively and systematically understand the general rules for landscape structure's changes of Pearl River Delta and even of the whole country.
