A Study On The History Of Chinese Early-modern City Planning With Nationalism

This issue is a study on the city planning practice of China's history of early-modern city planning, which in close contact with the national consciousness, and on the perspective of nationalism.Through the analysis of social thoughts in Chinese early-modern history, identifies particularity of the development road of Chinese early-modern city planning.Opens out the selfhood and independence consciousness in the culture of it.Meantime, focus on mentalities, type framework and character of city planning promoted by Chinese early-modern nationalism.First, the thesis discuss the development of nationalism and the interaction with Chinese early-modern city planning.Through the introduction of social thought as reformulations of nationalism, and according to the difference on actual agreement of national crisis, the city planning with nationalism is divided into two stages:construction with self-improvement which take national survial as crisis (1840-1911)and cutural construction which take national culture as crisis(1911-1949).In the first stage, under the impact of westernization and reform thought, kinds of city constructions around four aspects:partical construction of city, regional planning, education planning and development system of city, those constructive activities focus on the political value of anti-imperialism and national independence.In the second stage, cutural construcion is under the influence of three social thoughts which make the city planning with nationalism exhibit a direct response.Meantime, the paper through carding historical materials of city planning with colonialism, introducing the pseudo nationalism to discuss choice of political value on city planning, and prospect the impact of social thought on city planning.The purpose of this paper is through the analysis of social thoughts in Chinese early-modern history to enrich and expand China's history of early-modern city planning.Meanwhile, hopes to establish the connection system between city planning and social thought, to help and inspire contemporary city planning activities.
