Pedestrian is one important part of city traffic system, especially at intersections where the pedestrian is very crowded. The phenomenon many pedestrian voliations exists, which increase delay and decreases capacity of the intersections. In addition, from the prospect of traffic safety, pedestrian is easy to be injured at the traffic conflicting points. In the paper, pedestrian in crosswalks at signalized intersections was studied using artificial observations and video technique. This paper is made up of the following parts: Characteristics of pedestrian walking speed, behavior characteristics of pedestrian, pedestrian choice model when crossing intersection.In the parts of pedestrian walking speed characteristic, the characteristic is analyzed under different factors, such as pedestrian sex and age, crosswalk length of intersection and the form of motor vehicle signal settings(whether countdown signals exist). Based on many survey data the paper puts forward overall distribution characteristics of pedestrian walking speed at four-way signal intersections in Beijing.In the process of studying pedestrian behavior when crossing intersection, the chapter analyses behavior characteristics of pedestrian crossing intersection at physiology and psychology aspects, and proposes the definition of pedestrian behavior obedience and violation. And then, it selects the factors which effect pedestrian choice when crossing intersection and proposes the collecting principle of some factors. Lastly statistical analysis based on the factors was completed.The pedestrian behavior choice model at the signalized intersection is conducted based on the field data surveyed from the four-way intersection in Beijing. The main factors which affect the violation are analyzed as well as the relationship between the factors and the correlation of the behavior choice. Binary Logit model was build up based on the relationship mentioned above which can reflect the relationship between the pedestrian character and the attribute of intersections. The impact on the pedestrian behavior at intersections conducted by pedestrian character and the attribute of intersections was identified which can offer a reference for the design of different signalized intersection.
