Wuhan is in the middle of China. It lies at the east of Jianghan Plain, and the intersection of the middle reaches of the Changjiang and Hanshui River. There are Tortoise Mountain and Snake Mountain in the center while the surburb is also covered with mountains.Since the city became more and more prosperous in the Ming and Qing dynasty, many businessmen and gentries were interested in gardening. Palace garden, private garden, assembly hall garden, yamenyamun garden and temple garden were built in the city with a total number of more than 40.The first park in Wuhan, named Shouyi Park, was founded in 1923 by Xia Daonan, and Zhongshan Park, founded in 1928, is the first comprehensive park in this city. Ever since the first batch of parks in China, the parks in Wuhan have experienced a number of rehabilitation as time goes by and the revolution reflects the development of the city.
