The paper chooses Wuhan Yuehu Cultural Artistic Area as research object. It is a intersection of Chanjiang river and Hanjiang river in the center of Wuhan city, which has a superior position and beautiful natural environment with Hanjiang, Yuehu, Guishan and Meizishan nearby. The paper firstly defines it as urban cultural theme park, which is a intersection of urban park and theme park and reflects both public and thematic. Then, the methods of literature consultation and present situation investigation are used. Some information on the object is gained, and the theories of city park and theme park are studied. As a result, the theory of urban cultural theme park is combed logically.Based on the theory of Subjective Evaluation of Built Environment, the research object's present situation is analyzed and evaluated by the methods of Observation and Questionnaire and Interview. The present situation of environment, spatial awareness, general impression, traffic and facilities are described by participant observation, as well as the spatial behavioral situation by systematic observation. By Questionnaire and Interview, the users'evaluations are obtained through the data analysis in the forms of column, chart etc. By 2 methods above, the park's problems are exposed:lack of internal traffic, imperfect of service facilities, inadequate depth of cultural connotation and worse space design. An optimization is provided based on the theories of urban cultural theme park planning, including the park's theme orientation, spatial layout, scene spots, service facilities, traffic, route, furthermore, a detailed reconstruction on one area, such as creating scene spots in Guqintai. The optimization guides both the further development of Yuehu Cultural Artistic Area and the planning and design of urban cultural theme park.
