With the increasing competition among ports, how to improve terminal efficiency, shorten the time is becoming increasingly important.The natural factors, such as large wind,thick fog and convective weather etc, which may cause the phenomenon of traffic control and port sealing, have lead to a declining trend on using the number of days in terminal and increasing ship's time in port.When handling ship in large waves, the appalling conditions exist lots of potential hazards,such as the difficulties of tug mooring & towing position, insufficient tugs horsepower, dragging ropes, main engine out of control etc.Once hanppen, it will damage dock and its equipment, ships, tugs and other forms of property and pollute the environment,even a threat to the safety of human life.Those will have the bad impacts on the ship & port operations efficiency and the interests and reputation of the relative departments.In this paper, author combined with the specific circumstances of 3 to 6 Berth in Beilun Port II, analysis the root causes of risk & emergency situation caused by the ship, propose specific handling method in the situation of large downstream, mainly the following:This paper,combined with the actual situation on the wind, current & other meteorological elements, calculate the impacts on the leaving handling method in Beilun Port II.This paper,combined with author's practical experience in operating vessels and ship test resluts, establish the ship equations of motion in the condition of large downstream, analysis and calculate the dynamic state of motion, reveal the acceleration of large container vessels, indicate the security required speed through the ore terminal.Through scientific analysis and computing, combined with authour's practical experience in operating vessels, this paper provides a new leaving handling method for large container ships in different wind & current conditions. This paper tries to shorten the time a ship from the berth in order to maximize the efficiency of terminal and vessel operations by using the handling method studied in this paper.It has been verified repeatedly by the author and other experienced pilots.The results show that it can save about 30 minutes once from the berth. By now,it has generated enormous economic benefits.
