China is an earthquake-prone country, the research on how to resist the earthquake hazards relates to the people's life and property safely. The traditional anti-seismic structure is mainly to use the bearing capacity and deformation capacity of the structure and its components to resist the seismic action and absorb seismic energy, based on the "anti"; but the seismic isolated structure is to isolate the seismic energy and reduce the seismic response of the superstructure by setting isolation devices between the foundation and superstructure, based on the "isolation". The shock isolation technology has been developed from early system research to gradual application stage by the research of 30 years or so, and experienced some strong earthquake, isolated structure has shown excellent damping performance. So isolated structure has the advantages that anti-seismic structure bears no comparison with, and it is a kind of new effective structure which can reduce the earthquake hazards. At present, the research on steel laminated rubber bearing isolation system has been relatively mature, but its application cost in the promotion compared with conventional seismic techniques is still high, therefore it is necessary to continue to research and development a good new type isolation system which is economical, efficient and durable.The paper starts from introducing some basic contents, such as the basic knowledge of the earthquake, the development of isolated structure, isolation technology classification and isolation system's range of application, then focuses on the base isolation structure's dynamic analysis on seismic response and the basic isolation principles of the base isolation system.Experimental part of this article is based on a technological development and research project—"Building isolation practical technology and the research and development of the durability equipment" issue of Ministry of Science and Technology chaired by my mentor Professor Chen Qinglai. The issue is about the durable metal sliding base isolation system's excellent isolating effect. The isolation system consists of self-resetting spherical sliding metal bearing and straight steel rod damper which are designed by my mentor teacher Chen. The isolation system has good self-reset, high-load performance and durability property. This paper uses the MATLAB software to analysis the acceleration data excited by ELC seismic wave on two conditions of the isolation and the anti-seismic. The test model is a 6 scale steel frame structure with the ratio of l:6.The test was carried on a large simulated earthquake shaking table to verify the effectiveness of the spherical sliding isolation system and analyze the damper's impact on isolating effect, and provide valuable basis of experience and testing parameters for metal sliding base isolation technology. The research results show that:1,The self-resetting spherical sliding base isolation system designed by professor Chen has good isolation effect. It plays a significant role in isolation of the superstructure's acceleration response and speed response, and effectively reduces the seismic energy transferring up to superstructure, the rate of isolation energy can be reached to 60%, which indicates that the isolation system is an effective and practical form of a new type of isolation structure, and ensure the structural safety in the strong earthquake.2,Different value of the additional damping has a certain impact on isolation effect, but in isolated cases, the additional damping is not necessarily the bigger value the better the isolation effect. We should select the damper or isolator with damping performance depending on of the basic characteristics of various dampers, the building conditions, as well as the effect of isolation required.
