Numerous severe earthquakes bring immeasurable loss of lives and property to our society. Therefore, it is becoming more and more important to solve structure design problems arise from the issues related to earthquakes. Since the structure isolation technology can be utilized to decrease the acceleration and deformation of the upper structure greatly, it is drawing a lot of research in recent years.Base isolation is one of the isolation technologies which are most widely applied in structure design. In our country, the laminated rubber isolation bearing system attracted more research than other isolation systems in the past decades. Due to the need of the diversity of base isolation technologies, this thesis researches the damping performance of a new isolation technology, the metal sliding bearing system. It is a type of Friction Pendulum System base isolation bearings, which are made of metal materials. This thesis analyzes the acceleration response and velocity response of the metal sliding bearing system, and compares them with those of the traditional anti-seismic system.The main conclusions of this thesis are as follows:1, According to the performance analysis of acceleration response, the peak acceleration of the metal sliding bearing system is smaller than that of the traditional anti-seismic system, which means that the former system can reduce the applied force of the earthquake.2, The differences between acceleration amplifications of different floors show that the metal sliding bearing system can reduce the acceleration caused by earthquakes, whist the anti-seismic system always increases the acceleration.3, From the respective of velocity response, the predominant velocity values in every floor of isolation structure are less than the ones of fixed supported structures. So the earthquake energy is obliviously hampered to transmit to the upper structure. As a result, good performance for energy and seismic isolation can be achieved.4, The different performances of isolation system with different damping values show that the metal sliding bearing system is only better than the the traditional anti-seismic system when the damping values are fixed in a special region.
