As a large construction equipment, used to transport mixed levels of concretes and grains, mobile concrete placing-boom has been widely used in building construction because it has better adaptability and higher mobility. However, there are many problems during the application, which seriously influence its performance and marketing space. It's urgent to improve the overall performance of this device by innovation design. Therefore, it is necessary to carry on the research which aids to improve its design.This paper introduces the basic components and principle of the device, describes existing applying problems, points out its shortage of current R&D, and introduces Value Engineering (VE) into its innovation design. According to the general working process of VE, it firstly estimates the existing problems by the product quality risk assessment method and gets their risk values, then selects the controlling system with biggest output value as the object to modify. While applying VE to analyze the control system, it brings forward its functional diagram and calculates the value coefficients for all functional modules by the force decision method,DARE method and function weight method to direct the innovation design. Then brings forward new controlling system by brain-storm method and expert investigation method, and carries on the analyse and comparison of technical and economical aspects to ensure its efficiency.By applying the function exponential method to the actual service data and the statistical data, it confirms the superior plan's coefficients and analyzes its practical application effect. Finally it summarizes the harvest and insufficiency of the VE utilization in the innovation design, and provide some advice for further optimization.
