Based on practice of environment design of modern residential area and plentiful insistence of residential area as well as their research results from domestic and foreign, a series of optimization strategies of environment design of modern residential area are proposed which are borrowed from multi-disciplinary theories and methods such as environment behavior science,environmental psychology,ect.System optimization is the predominant ideal.In addition,with residential area in Xi'an as examples,the optimization strategies are based on investigating and studying on elements of exterior space of residential area,by adopting method such as application observation, interview,and questionary,in order to understand fully the habitant's demand of space for outdoor activity.The optimization has the following two meanings:the optimization of design ideas of environment of modern residential area and the optimization of elements of the elderly and children activity space.The aim of the optimization is to seek the method of establishing good relation between outdoor space and the habitant.The residential district will be constructed to an ideal homeland which satisfies the habitant's demand of both matter and mind by building the pleasant environment of outdoor space in residential district,as well as creating more interesting space for habitant's life.In the finality,the theoretic significance and operational importance lie on its making up the blank space of research on optimization design of the environment of modern residential area and guide residential landscape construction in urban districts to develop in a more active,healthy,economical,effective and sustainable way.
