There is a huge group of children in my country, and activities are closely related to children’s physical and mental health. In recent years, children’s sedentary time has increased, and health problems such as obesity and myopia have occurred frequently. As the main places for children’s activities, residential area have received more and more attention for their spatial quality. In this context, the importance and urgency of exploring the inner relationship between the open space environment of the settlement and children’s outdoor activities are particularly prominent.Based on the perspective of children’s outdoor activity behavior, this study investigates and analyzes the children’s activity behavior and its spatial distribution characteristics in open space in settlement, explores the environmental factors of open space that affect children’s outdoor activities, and proposes strategies and suggestions for optimizing open space in settlement based on the research results.Firstly, the concept of children’s outdoor activities and open space in settlement is interpreted to define the research scope. The basic theories related to children’s outdoor activities and open space for children in settlement at home and abroad are reviewed and summarized.Based on the reflection of domestic research status quo,the research scale and research ideas of this paper are further determined.Secondly, based on the principles of the richness of the residential environment, the adequacy and diversity of children’s behavior data, three residential areas in Dalian City were selected as the research objectst. Two days of working holidays were selected to conduct a behavioral survey on children’s outdoor activities based on behavioral map method and interview method.A total of 1540 activity samples were collected. The quantitative data such as children’s gender, age, caregiver status, specific activity content, social status, activity duration, site stay time and spatial location were obtained to present and analyze the basic characteristics and spatial distribution of children’s outdoor activity behavior in residential area.On this basis,GIS software is used to calculate and identify different activity objects, different degrees and different types of activity hot space within the research scope, and the relationship between the environment and behavior of each typical space identified is analyzed in detail. After,in order to further clear influence environment characteristics of activity, combined with the existing research results and field research to build and measured residential area open space environment factors, using the methods of quantitative analysis, the open space environmental factors by SPSS statistical software calculation and children’s activities, and children’s activity behavior was significantly related to environmental factors. Finally, summarize the behavioral characteristics of children in the outdoor activities of the residential area, analyze the combination of open space environment, combined with the research conclusions, and supports the "research discovery-derive conclusions-strategies and suggestions",from the following four aspects Open space optimization strategy and suggestions for children’s outdoor activities:(1)Programming layout recommended to build multi-level,multi-type network system, open space site selection requires adaptation to climate and child behavior;(2)Space design recommendation reasonable partition Shape a multi-level rich space form, improve the naturalness of the site to meet the activities of different age children;(3)Recommended a variety of game facilities and life infrastructure, while paying attention to the details of the facility;(4)Maintain management of space is planned, integrate efficient use, while ensuring the continued participation of children and establishing a message feedback mechanism.
