A large amount of energy is consumed by the rural buildings in northern China for heating while the indoor thermal environment is far from satisfactory. One of the chief reasons is that the thermal performance of building envelope is too poor, which makes the energy efficiency analysis and optimization of the building envelope absolutely necessary.Grounded on field investigation, this article shows the current situation and existing problems of the building envelope for rural buildings in northern China, which are urgently needed to be improved. With the help of the database based on the field investigation, 2 typical buildings in severe cold and cold areas are picked out to represent their own climate zone. Under the platform of TRNSYS software, the model for the calculation of the energy consumption is established to compute the basis energy consumption of 2 typical buildings and the corresponding benefits of energy-saving measures.In view of the current situation, this article brings forward that the rural buildings in northern China need optimization to achieve the optimal parameters for the building envelope. Considering that it is not wealthy in rural areas, this article targets the minimization of the Life Cycle Cost (LCC) of building. TRNSYS, Genopt, Java are combined to fulfill the generic optimization to obtain the desired parameters for the building envelope for rural buildings in cold areas and severe cold areas.
