In the lighting application, LED(light-emitting diode), with many advantages of energy-saving, longevity, environment friendly, small volume, quick response, high reliability and convenient regulation and control, is becoming a new lighting source and is being applied widely. The LED lighting application requires the supports of many technologies such as the design of driving power supply and optical system. The key issues of research and design work in this thesis are LED driving power supply and light distribution of LED illumination luminaries. The main innovative works are shown below:Firstly, on the condition of summarizing the requirements for driving power supply from common LED illumination, based on the electronic properties of LED, two types of drive chips are selected to design two different main circuits of driving power supply. The main circuits employ boost topology, with a full consideration of the factors of cost, reliability and practicality, to realize drive of many LEDs in series by driving power supply. Through experimental tests, electronic performance parameters from the two main circuits subjected to various load circuits, are gotten. These parameters have important reference values to the power supply design.Secondly, Optical properties of LED are explored. Based on known knowledge of algorithm of illumination, we introduced a new method of light distribution of LED illumination. Using this method, we are able to verify the general equations widely used to approximate LED light distribution. We also built models for light distribution and intensity distribution for the method. Different from secondary optics design and taking advantage of different radiation angles of array of LED modules, lighting devices for different environments can be developed without individual design of lens and reflection devices when using this method for light distribution.Thirdly, according to the lighting requirements for main road in the standard of urban road lighting, this paper designs a kind of LED high power lamp which is suitable for road lighting. For the design of light distribution, we adopt the novel method. For the design of driving power supply, under the premise of guarantee for power supply's reliability, driving power supply gains structural optimization and performance improvement using elements as few as possible. It realizes that the drive efficiency of power supply would be higher than that of the other same power supply available in the market. In addition, the lamps has realized the modulation and facilitated the installment, the debugging and the maintenance during the processing of the actual project. Finally, this paper has proven the feasibility of the design through system's experimental test.
