With the development of China's infrastructure construction continuously, the constructions of highway tunnels have increased year by year, and then the tunnel traffic safety has been regarded continuously. So far, the researchs on the tunnel traffic safety have been only limited to analyse vehicle or road factors. And analysing environment based on the driver's psychological and physical reflection to reduce traffic accident rates has are rare. Drivers are the dominant factor in the road traffic human-machine system who are vulnerable to the impact of system environment .In the process of traveling in a tunnel, the driver are mainly affected by the tunnel light conditions. Traditional lighting design of tunnel only pay attention to whether the drivers can distinguish obstacles in front of them, but did not consider that the driver adverse physiology and psychology which caused by unreasonable design of the tunnel light condition is one of the reasons for the tunnel traffic accidents Therefore, research on the tunnel light condition by analyzing drivers' psychological and physiological responses and then find the best combination of tunnel light condition is very essential to reduce the psychological burden on drivers and highway tunnel traffic accidents, raise the service level and highway tunnel capacity. This paper based on the analysis of human physiological indicators, through actual driving and laboratory simulations experiments, analysis the impact on the driver from the short and long tunnel light condition ,determine the influencing factors and establish linear regression model between the physiological signals testing indicators and the influencing factors, finally combining the subjective survey analysis, verify the reliability of experimental methods, and give advice to the optimal design of the future long tunnel lighting project. There are some conclusions from driving examination in highway tunnel. In the whole process of drivers driving in highway tunnel, there are significant differences about driver's physiological and psychological reflections comparing with them driving in the highway with the same rank. And when drivers driving in tunnel, they mental load would be increasing. Make sure the critical factors that would lead to physiological and psychological changes of drivers, when they driving in tunnels. This factor would be three aspects. 1. The vehicle, and the speed of vehicle more fast, the mental load of driver would be more heavy. 2. The circumstance, mostly, this is light conditiong in highway tunnel, for example, the flinker's frequency, the luminance, luminance wave rate and the luminance constrast of cab and tunnel. 3. The others, this is running time. There are some conclusions from simulateing driving in long highway tunnels in doors. When people were in highway tunnel light conditions that were dynamic for a long time, their mental load would be increasing. According to partial corrdlation analysis, arrive at some conclusion. The flinker's frequency and luminance of tunnels are critical factors that would make people feel fidgeting, straining and excited. The luminance in tunnel more stronge, and the flinker's frequency more fast, the time that people feeling fidgeting, straining and excited more early. The flinker's frequency and the luminance constrast of cab and tunnel are critical factors that would bring on visual fatigue. The flinker's frequency more fast and the luminance constrast of cab and tunnel more big, the time that people getting visual fatigue. At the same time, baseising on results of statistical analysis from driving and simulateing driving examinations, some advices about optimizing planning of unnel illumination have been proposed.
