A Study On The History Of Macau Early-modern City Planning And Construction: 1845-1999

Based on the rich and accurate historical material, the theis is aimed at the development of Macao early-modern city planning and construction. According to the political, economic and social revolutions, The process can be divided into Foreign Trade To Revive Rorts Period (1845-1956) and Tourism To Revive Economy Period (1956-1999). Because of urban space evolution and planning idea development, the two periods can be divided into 7 stages.The paper has 7 chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction part, proposing and interpreting the concept of Macau early-modern time, which is from 1845 to 1999. The middle part starts from the analysis of the effect of geography and historical evolution to Macau urban development before early-modern time. Then introduct the process of Macau urban development from the time opened the port to be colonized. Capter 3 investigates the economic effect for Macau to change its goal for urban development during the early-modern time, which leads to the eralier two periods and 7 stages in the article. Chapte 4 and 5 analyze and study the process and impact of the process and impact of Macao early-modern city planning and construction during Foreign Trade To Revive Rorts Period and Tourism To Revive Economy Period separately. The former contains 4 stages, they are Scoping Stage (1845-1867), Environmental Conditioning Stage (1867-1918), Instant Urbanization Stage (1918-1942) and Slow Urban Development Stage (1942-1956). The latter contains 3 stages, they are Overall Landscaping Stage (1956-1975), New Development Stage (1975-1998), Regional Planning Created Stage (1998-1999). Chapter 6 disscusses the characteristics of Macao early-modern city planning and construction from the pubic space, the concept of planning and construction, the agencies and policy of planning and construction. The lasy part of the thesis is the analysis and summary about the above.This research aims at offering reference for Macau even China urban planning and old city transformation build now, through the research of the development of Macao early-modern city planning and construction.
