This issue is the case study of Fuzhou City in the research on the history of Chinese early-modern city planning, and the research subject is the history of Fuzhou early-modern city planning. Studies include two levels: On the first level, to study on the activities about constructions and plannings in early-modern time in Fuzhou, including technologies in urban planning, political systems, economic and social environments, all of which reveal the evolution in the development of urban planning, and explore the further in the development of urban planning and possibilities. On the second level, to study the stages in the history of Fuzhou early-modern city planning and its characteristics, comparing with other Chinese and foreign cities, comprehensive comparison of the historical process of chance and necessity.In this paper, it is composed by 10 chapters. Chapter 1: Introduction, mainly introduces the purpose and significance of the study, subjects and content, methods and technical routes and the research topics related to the recent domestic and international status. Section 2-9 chapter for the main articles can be divided into two parts. The first part includes the first 1-4 chapters, which analyses Fuzhou city's geographical and historical background of the formation of city, and the role of other major historical events on promoting city restructuring, then stage the history of the planning on the basis of the features of Fuzhou early-modern city planning. In this article, the history of Fuzhou early-modern city planning is divided into 4 periods: Opening port and modern pattern of the transition period (1844-1913); Establishment of modern municipal agencies and urban redevelopment period (1914-1938); Outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War and stagnation of urban planning period (1938-1945); Victory in Sino-Japanese War and recovery of urban planning period (1946-1949). It is proposed that political factors have a profound impact on the history of the urban planning process. The second part includes the first 5-9 chapters. It is the thematic research about Fuzhou early-modern city planning, including the modern pattern of the city, the modern urban redevelopment, the modern planning methods and policies, and the five aspects about the characteristics of early-modern city planning. By analysing various historical factors with the dialectical materialism, we propose the limitations and the breakthrough, the inevitabilities and the chances of Fuzhou early-modern city planning. Chapter 10 : conclusion, it sums up the characteristics of Fuzhou early-modern city planning and makes follow-up study on the projected goals and outcomes envisaged.This study was designed to provide the reference of today's planning practice, through the research about characteristics, focus on modern urban redevelopment of old city to further the in-depth research.
