Currently, with the speedup of highway construction in our country, the highway network has been formed which takes the national highway as the main lines and the provincial highways and county roads as the auxiliary lines. However, when constructing the highways, we have neglected the protection and the development of the environment along the roads because of the relatively backwardness of highway landscape design. In this paper, the author introduces the concept of dynamic highway landscape, and analyzes the concept from the perspectives of artistic theories and its aesthetic features. From there, the author illustrates the basic compositions of highway landscape, including people, its surrounding environment, and other objective elements such as region, culture, time, season, etc. and how these elements impact on landscape design.Based on this analysis, the author puts forward 9 principles of dynamic highway landscape design. These principles are: security, perspectives, inductivity, integrity, nature, coordination, regional culture protection, ecology, sustainability and economization. Then the author illustrates the basic connotations of these principles, analyzes the foundation of these principles, and provides suggestions on how to make good use of these principles to improve the landscape quality in highway landscape design. Furthermore, the author analyzes the actual implementation of these dynamic landscape design principles by citing some classical models of highway landscape design in France, Australia, and Japan.Through the illustration of the principles above, the author hopes that they will provide good guidance to the dynamic highway landscape design and enrich the philosophies in dynamic highway landscape design.
