Study Of Urban Design Method Based On Space Syntax

Space Syntax theory regards physical city as the object of initial concern, discovering eco-nomic and social process by investigating city pattern. It emphasizes the space's physical, inde-pendent regular and active features. Space is not only the background of mankind's activity and object, but also the inside attribute, tribute-space, of mankind's activity. Space is no longer split into pieces, but constitutes the relationship between all the spaces of layout, namely the space mode or space form. This theory provides a new theoretical basis for urban design and particularly for the city space design.The role of urban design in the urban planning strengthens gradually, valued by the commu-nity more and more highly in China. Now the research of it, in one hand, is still focused on the traditional shape design and also has more explorations of many directions, and in the other hand it is ascendant in the aspect of applied newly arisen theories and especially the use of mathematics model. This thesis tries to make it the point of departure, analyses the development of the Space Syntax theory at home and abroad, and then puts forward the new strategy by which Space Syntax theory applies to the urban design. Finally with a typical model case, it discusses the method and mode that Space Syntax can apply to the urban design of China.This article starts from the concept of Space Syntax, addressing theories foundation and the analytical contents of Space Syntax. Then it introduces the research progress of Space Syntax, making readers understand the main object, and defines the scope of the study. It analyses Axis analysis method, Convex-shaped space analysis method and View district method of Space Syntax, the three main analysis techniques, and the effective combination of the four main technical para-meters ,contained integration, accessibility, depth and control., discussing the development process, analyzing the Space Syntax and the advanced theories at home and abroad applied to typical mod-el case, and discussing the detailed apply of China's urban design.
