Multi-modal container transportation is an advanced form of transportation organization, and it is the developing trend of transportation. In the outline of the eleventh five-year plan for national economic and social development, it was definitely put forward that the multi-modal container transportation should be popularized. In multi-modal transportation, the rational layout of container transferring cities and route selection are of utmost importance. Therefore, this thesis systematically studied the layout of container transferring cities and route selection.(1) The composition and current conditions of the net of multi-modal container transportation are introduced. The problems about the route selection, layout of the port and inland container transferring stations are pointed out.(2) In consideration of the characteristic of the factors that influence the layout of container transferring cities, FCM algorithm is used to build the model of the rational layout of container transferring cities. By taking the 29 cities of Henan province and Hubei province as an example, the priority of each container transferring city candidate is calculate and then the suggestion on whether the transferring station should be established and the scale of the transferring station is presented.(3) The 17 representational port cities are chosen. Clustering analysis is made according to the conditions of the cities and the ports. Suggestions on the function orientation of each kind of port are given.(4) Through establishing the evaluation index system of the route selection in multi-modal container transportation, the combination method of AHP and Fuzzy Synthetical Evaluation is adopted to determine the best route from Zhengzhou to Rotterdam.
