Study On The Traditional Tibetan Settlements In Danba, Sichuan Province

In the field of historic architecture and vernacular architecture, more and more attentions has been paid on research in terms of settlement, compared to the previous research which focus on the evaluation of traditional architecture only. The settlement is not a simply aggregation of isolated buildings, but an organic system which is the materialization of human activities. According to the research on traditional settlements, we could not only comprehend how vernacular architectures shape and development, but also decipher the architecture'gene'in different region, different environment and different culture, therefore, to get experience and inspiration from the exploration of architecture regionalization in the period of globalization.The article takes the Danba Jiarong-Tibetan settlements as research object and the study is based on thesis of settlement with extensive perspectives. Danba district is famous for its long history and multiply culture. The characteristic geology and climate, with distinctive Jiarong-Tibetan culture, shape the settlement and demonstrate a special architecture culture. In recent years, the touristry stratagem focus on Danba Tibetan villages develops effectively. According to the research on settlement there, the touristry resources can be utilized more scientifically. Moreover, it helps to find out methods to prevent immoderate exploration.The article includes seven chapters altogether. First it analyses the factors which influence the settlement space. Secondly, aiming at the location-choosing, the Spatial Form, and the space characters and composing elements of settlements. By using the city space theories of Kevin Lynch, the article research on the space image then. After that, analyses the architecture forms and landscape characteristic, to comprehensively explore the value of Danba traditional settlements. In the end, base on the previous research, the article comes up the suggestion of the principle and measures of the settlement space's protection and exploitation.The article pays attention to integrate the natural environment and the humanities environments; to integrate the protection and exploitations. Base on those the article put research on the Tibetan settlement space in Danba district. It hoped that some valuable revelations can be found for the research on vernacular architecture.
